My interview Review
My interview was for 7:00 am got there around 5:30 am, which I thought is super early but I met almost 100 people already waiting. Around 6-6:30 we were divided into immigrants and non-immigrants queue and they asked us to open our medical but don't take it out. They asked that 6:30 am appointment to queue first then 7 am. We went inside, had about 5 security checks in total for the whole interview but different stages. We got to a table, my appointment letter was checked, a number written on it, a paper was attached to the back of my passport and a slip was given to be filled later. We were directed from there to another building just across. We got to another security check, took out our watches, belts, and shoes then went through a scanner. From there we were directed to the main building. I was called to a window, he requested for my documents, so I gave him my passport, appointment confirmation, medical, police report, DS 160, original birth certificate and photocopy, affidavit of support, 2018, 2017, 2016 tax returns, w2, paystubs, and the slip I was asked to fill out. He returned my appointment confirmation which as a number they will use to call you, original birth certificate and 2017, 2016 tax returns that 2018 is enough. He also made photocopies on his own and returned the ones that I did. Then he asked me to go have a sit and wait for about 45 mins, he called me back to for fingerprinting and signed a form.
After he asked me to go sit and wait that I'll be called upon when is my turn for the interview. The waiting period lasted for about 1hr and then my number was called.
My interviewer was a calm gentleman
Me: Good morning
Him: Good morning, how are you doing today?
Me: Fine, thank you and yours?
He asked me to raise my right hand and I took the oath.
Then questions started rolling in
1. How many times have I attempted to travel?
2. Why didn't you intend to get married in Nigeria? After I answered this question there was a followup question about locations of where our parents are living.
3. When did you get to meet her?
4. When did you guys start dating?
5. When did you officially propose to her?
6. How long as she been in the United States?
7. How many times has she been to Nigeria? After I answered this question, he asked where did she stay the last time she was in Nigeria and for how long?
8. He then asked how many times have you seen her face to face, then I answered. Then he asked me to show him pictures from a specific month/year and I did.
He then brought two pictures from the first initial packet that my fiance sent to USCIS and ask where they were taken and I answered.
****** My opinion why he did that is because my fiance and I have met 8 times within two years but only 4 times in Nigeria. We had traveled to meet each other in different countries.
9. What are your wedding plans? Is there going to be a big party?
10. Have I been married or have a child and my fiance?
11. He asked for evidence of ongoing relationship? and as I was about to give the album etc, he said I shouldn't worry that my fiancee gave enough evidence, that his just asking questions to confirm everything he has in front of him.
The guy was really cool and fun but can talk oooo. The whole interview lasted about 20mins because it was like a chatting thing. I was nervous before I got to him and even his first two questions were scary but the process was actually really cool. He said it has been approved, a text message will be sent to you for pickup. He gave me three papers, one for DHL pickup, one IMBRA and one for USCIS Immigrant Fee. He told me it would be ready in 5 to 7 days but Monday is a holiday.
I said thank you and I left. Time at that time was around 11:45 am
My advice, be confident, relax, calm and KNOW your relationship. I was surprised he didn't ask me anything specifically about her, not even her name or location.
GoodLuck!!!
