Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

Want to give back to the amazing community of visajourney that I took so many notes from during my immigration journey.

Interview was scheduled at 7.30AM. I was called to form a line and admitted inside the embassy at 7AM. I went to get some water when they called 7:30 am batch so I was late and last in the line. The whole interview process for me too almost 4.5 hours as I was last in the line.

Piece of wisdom: Carry some water as there is no store there to buy anything while you are waiting. You can always leave the bottle outside. Go to the line as soon as they call you.

Immigration and non-immigration interview sections are separate. All the staffs were very friendly and nice. A lady at Counter 1 took fingerprints and original civil documents. He asked some basic questions like what's your marriage date? who is with you? Have I ever lived outside the US and India for more than a year? and gave me the flier on domestic rights.

I then took the token and started to wait to be called at the actual interview. This is where I waited for about 3 hours as I was last in the line.

I finally was up and greeted a young American CO. There was another lady assisting her at the counter. They were both very nice and friendly.

She asked me:

When did you get married? Where? What area?
Why did you decide to get married there?
Where is your wife now?
Where is she living?
Whats her parents address?
She then asked me about my financial situation as my sponsor did not have enough income to support that. I was aware that the question will come so I was ready with supporting documents of additional assets. She asked for a copy for that.
She asked me to explain the timeline of our relationship.
She asked me what does my wife do?
She also asked me to pass the wedding album so that they can see the pictures. Piece of advice: Print a whole new album 4X6 for your wedding pictures if you don't already have it. It's easy to pass it via the window. It's also very cheap in India to get it done compared to the US.
She picked out two pictures from other album and asked to identify the person and how do we know her.
She also asked me about my plans for working as I just finished my masters.

Finally, she said those golden words that y visa is approved!! She then explained to me about my domestic abuse rights.

In my case, both the VO was friendly and understanding. If everything is genuine then there is nothing to worry.

Thank you to the visajourney community to help through this tedious, long, torturous process!
