My interview was at 8.15, i came to the Embassy at 7.30 and already had quite a few people in line in front of me. My advice would be to come at 6.30 to be in the first 10 people.
Before entering the gate, the security guard checks passports and after that you are allowed to get inside through the gate and wait in line for the Embassy to open.
Basically, you queue 4 times:
1) window outside - you submit your DS 160 and passport (make sure they attach the barcode to the DS 160 - to secure Pony express home delivery)
2) inside the building after security check to get the paper with number
3) when your number gets called - to submit the documents
4) when your name gets called - for the interview with the consul
All in all it took me about 4 hours from the entry to the exit.
The interview itself was short and very constructive, I have listed below the questions:
- When did you meet your fiance?
- Where does your fiance work?
- Where do you work?
- How many times your fiance visited you in Russia?
- Do you have kids?
- Congratulations, your visa is approved.
I had lots of other documents with me - correspondence with my fiance's family, FT screenshots, photographs - nothing of that consul asked me to show to her)
