Guangzhou, China | Review on April 24, 2019: | Xiaofen+Alex
Rating: | Review Topic: K1 Visa
Interview went smooth, she (xiaofen, beneficiary) said the interviewer was nice and only asked questions for maybe 5 minutes. We made sure to prepare pictures/travel receipts/ visas/ employment letters/ etc. to prove our long relationship, along with my complete 2018 taxes and other full document sets requested in the instructions. I had included testimonial letters from friends and family in my initial application (i-129F) but did not include them in the interview packet, no issue about it but the interviewer asked about them in passing. XF knows English well but the interviewer did know some Chinese (she guesses around B1-B2 proficiency).
After the interview, the interviewer handed my fiance an "approval" letter and said "congratulations!" I could not be there so I was at home refreshing the ceac visa status check page-- DO NOT DO THIS--, it does not reflect the approval status right away, I had a heart attack when it read "last updated: *date of interview* /status: administrative processing".
SO glad for this process to finally be over, as we've been apart for 6 months while I've worked to meet income requirements and she's lived at home in China since then. We went through an RFE because i forgot to tack on page 8 of my i-129F, the US government shutdown slowed our process down, and the us-china trade war was ramping up. I've been chewing on tums since November 2018(she was in the US with me since July 2018 on her travel visa after our grad school graduation), but I can finally breathe a sigh of relief... Thank you to everyone who was patient and answered our questions, this website kept me sane! Good luck to everyone waiting for the next step in their process, there is an end to it all! LET"S GET MARRIED!!
Giving a 4 because I don't think getting married should be this hard!
