Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

My visa interview was scheduled for April 15, 2019 at Mumbai. I had my fingerprinting done at Delhi on April 12th. I reached Mumbai one day prior to my interview and stayed at Sofitel Hotel, which is a 1 minute walk to the US Consulate. My interview was scheduled for 7:30am and I reached the consulate at 6:35am. There were a huge number of people standing to the opposite street of the consulate (most of which were there for non-immigrant visa's). The guards announced the people scheduled for 7:30am appointment to form a line alongside the consulate at 7am. After passing security check-in, inside we were told to form another line to receive our tokens. I chose to give my interview in Punjabi Language. After waiting for 30 minutes, my token was called by an Indian officer who checked my documents and asked me...
1) Who is calling you?
2) Where does she live?
He then handed me a pamphlet explaining my rights in USA and told me to wait again till my token would be called. This process took about 5 minutes. I then waited for about 40 minutes and my token number was called for the interview. I was interviewed by a lady consulate accompanied by a Punjabi translator. I was asked the following...
1) Who is calling you?
2) Where did your marriage take place?
3) Where did your reception take place?
4) She then again asked me where my marriage took place to see if I give the same answer I guess.
5) Who attended your wedding? (How many people came from USA to attend and how are they related to you)
6) How many people attended both the marriage and reception?
7) Was your marriage an arrange marriage or a love marriage?
8) Who arranged the marriage?
9) How much money was spent on both the wedding and reception?
10) Did your wife come visit you after the marriage?
I gave the answers to the questions asked. She asked me to show pictures. I brought 2 big albums- wedding and reception, and also a smaller album I got made which included wedding, reception, honeymoon and pictures with family members. She first asked me to hold the big wedding album and turn page by page for her to see as the album could not fit through the window. She was pin-pointing people in the pictures and wanted to know who they are and how they are related to me. She asked me to pass the smaller album through the window and she went through all the pages. She questioned where they were taken, who were in the pictures and that was it. After typing on her computer for 1-2 minutes, she stated "Your visa is approved." This process only took about 5-7 minutes.

They try to trick you and ask the same questions again to see if you are giving the same answers. They try to give you a hard time..be confident and honest!

These reviews have been very helpful to me as they give an idea of what to expect. Thanks to visa journey.
