When we arrived, we waited in line outside and then emptied everything in order to go through the security checkpoint. I now wish I had left some unnecessary items at home, because it was not convenient to take out everything from my backpack pockets. We then waited in line to be identified and showed them our photos. That was in a covered, outdoor area. We proceeded upstairs inside a building with rows of chairs and windows to talk to government officers. They gave us a pamphlet to read about abuse and rights of immigrants once they arrive in the United States, which was sad but informative. The officers were straight-forward and very thorough. I brought a binder with all paperwork organized in categories, and that was helpful. I used sheet protectors for the photos, and wish I hadn't since I had to take out each paper individually. I would suggest an accordion folder instead of a three-ring binder, since the windows only have a small slot where individual papers can be passed through to the officers. The officers all spoke both English and Spanish, and allowed both me and my fiance (the beneficiary) to respond to questions that they asked. The only trouble we had was with tax receipts, but I showed them the proof that I had filed or had gotten an extension, and they allowed us to proceed. We did not realize we had been approved until the end of the last conversation with the last officer, when she said we could expect to receive the visa in the mail soon. Overall, I think we went through about two or three interviews in that building before being approved.
