I accompanied my wife to her CR1 DCF interview - we had a 730 appointment and arrived at about 705.
Our Experience:
- There are two lines. One for immigrant Visas (To the left if you are facing the consulate). It is the shorter of the two. The other is for all other business.
- The first window checks passports and verifies your appointment letter before sending you to the queue for security.
- Security was super nice. I'm a type 1 diabetic who was. carrying my glucose meter and insulin pens. Security walked me through with it so that it would not have any issues and escorted us to the next building where we turned it in- should I need it. (They are very understanding and way to cheery for an early Wednesday morning!)
- After this we were directed to the payment window. We paid with Credit Card.
- We were then given a number and directed to sit and wait for it to be called.
- Maybe 5 minutes later we spoke with a man who went through all of our documents quickly and verified everything. - We were then asked to sit and wait for our interview.
- We chatted briefly with one of the K1 petitioners who my wife had met at her doctors appointment the prior day and were called up after about 15 minutes.
- The woman who interviewed with us kept it extremely casual, like a friendly conversation about how we met. We were extremely comfortable and probably talked more than we needed to. But it was really pleasant. After that we were approved pending receipt of my wife's medical paperwork (Which arrived the next day).
- We opted for "pick up" at the Mailboxes Etc. near the embassy rather than post. (My wife picked it up today and it went very smoothly.)
- Process time after the interview to receiving the card was 3 business days.
All in all we were there for about an hour and fifteen minutes. The embassy is comfortable, and everyone is extremely friendly. When we left, we were laughing because we couldn't believe how worked up we'd been over an interview that felt like a simple chat. A very positive experience all around!!
