We went today for our interview at Federal Plaza for my husbands AOS. (1yr and 7 mos after filing). My appointment was for 1:10pm and we were there 10 minutes early and went through security pretty quickly. I did have an attorney with us because my husband and I married after the 90 days on a K1 visa and I was worried there might be more of a problem than normal. My attorney had wisely mentioned we should wait for her prior to going to the window to check in (i saw many people who went separately as soon as they arrived, which caused som confusion for all parties). We checked in and she let them know we would need a Spanish interpreter (for my husband, since he is not 100% fluent). We sat down and it was 2.20 hours before they called us in. We overheard one woman employee mention to another couple that there was a delay with interpreters, so I am not sure if that was why we were waiting so long. Our attorney checked in to let them know that we were still waiting and soon after we were called in. We brought our 6 mos old son with us but he was actually not to much trouble. The interview process was longer than I or my attorney had expected although he was very friendly and liked to joke a lot.He did a lot of talking. He talked a lot about his profession with my attorney and did ask me a few questions but really both my husband and I weren't asked very much--other than the main question of why we did not marry within the 90 days and some other small things but overall--nothing like I was expecting from other reviews.
We brought a packet that had everything they could want (all the proof of a bonafide relationship, pics, documents) so maybe that is why they didn't really grill us much. Plus, I think we really demonstrated that we were a family w/ the baby and a very large photo record. Other than marrying late, we didn't have anything else that could be flagged as a problem. The interview process took probably 1.5 hrs if not more-- all the employees were gone when we exited the office. Mainly that time consisted of us not saying much, just listening and for the most part enjoying his humor and interesting discussions--although it was a little weird because I was just not expecting that (nor was my attorney who has worked with almost all the officers there in that office). I wish I could say more about what to expect for the visit but your experience will depend 100% on your officer-- that is really what it boils down to. My attorney had mentioned she had experience with many good officers, she rarely encountered one who was difficult but you never know who or what type of person you will get until you are there. Overall the experience was good, a little long since I was breastfeeding quite a bit, hungry and had my wiggly baby--but my officer was very kind and did what he could to get our card in the mail and let us know he was doing so--so we have a reason to celebrate tonight.
