ont fall for the scam across from the Consulate to pull you in to sit on the red chairs. We fell for it and had to buy a bottle water each. When you get there, just line up at the Consulate.
WillieT1986 did an excellent job summarizing the process...you can find his timeline under me as we are following each other...you can get the details there..as for us at the interview time..
Our number was called, officer asked me 1) who
do you work for 2) what do you do for them
Then told me to sit down
Questions for my fiancée
1) how did you meet
2) why did you want to meet your fiancé
3) how many times your fiancé visit you
4) did you have an engagement party
5) do you have pictures of your engagement party?
Show me your pictures
6) do you have any children?
My fiancée as she was getting the pictures said yes, she has one with me. The officer seemed a bit taken and reclarified the question with her...and my fiancée said again, yes with me.
The officer calls me back to the window and asks if I have any paperwork regarding our son. I told her we just had received our CRBA a few days prior. She said ok I am going to approve you on condition you bring back that certificate. So we got a blue slip with those instructions on it along with 2 new passport photos. We returned on 01/28 and supplied what was requested and was approved. ***note, if you are given a blue slip requesting additional information, you can go anytime from 1 to 2pm Mon, Tues Thurs or Fri without any appointment. When you bring your paperwork back with the blue slip, you do not see the officer or have an additional interview...it’s basically the initial document intake lady at first interview that accepts everything and approves it.
Additional note, the VN Post offers expedited EMS delivery for 115k VND. You request this if you desire, on your DS 160. You will pay the fee when the passport is delivered. It took exactly 5 business days to receive. We had our approval just before Tet holiday and everything was shut down for 10 days starting Feb2 but when was over, we got it right after. It’s worth the 115k...be advised only the beneficiary can sign for it so make sure they have on hand their VN government ID...
