my wife interview was at 9:15 at 26 Federal Plaza on the 9th floor. We arrive early around 8:50 at the entrance. I brought a translator just in case for any miscommunication however I found out later that It was not needed. I will get back to that in just a minute. We got to the 9th floor and check in with someone at the front window. She gave back my interview notice letter and a paper that directed us to the 4th floor. I then check in with another representative at the window. Ask me question if I had a attorney. I said no. He then asks if I had a translator. I said yes but then look at me and told me that won’t be needed and we will provide one for you. He gave me a waiting slip and we sat down and waited to be called by our interview officer (IO). 30 minutes pass and then we were called in. I raise my hand as the officer connected his eyes on my wife and I as we got up and approach him. Our IO asks us if the names on the interview notice were us and I said yes. We proceeded to his office. IO asks me you have an attorney right? But she is at a different state. I said yes and she could not make it. He then told me the translator is on the phone and then told us to raise our right hand and swear an oath to tell the truths. We sat down and proceeded. He asks for our passport and ID from both of us. I gave them to him and he looks them over and nodded. He then asks my wife to move up her seat as I sat in the back. He got her fingerprints and asks her what’s your name and what is your address. After that he then look at me and confirm the address with me and I said yes. He said he wanted to make sure he sends the green card to the right address. At the very moment I knew my wife and I pass the interview but I contained my composure. He then asks my wife a series of yes or no question. It was long. He made a joke on one the question that sounded inappropriate but had to ask. He asks if my wife had ever done prostitution before? Of course my wife said no and smile and so did I. IO said he knew that questions would make us laugh as he smile too. He was serious but knew how to make you feel comfortable and professional.
After he finish the yes and no question. He then look at me and said to me. Okay you guys pass. You will be receiving a conditional green card. By law this has always been this way for a very long time. He told me to follow up 90 days before expiration. This card was for 2 years. He said you will first receive and approved letter in 2-3 days and then after 2-4 weeks for your green card. He also said I knew you were a genuine married couple when I first saw you two. I felt so relieve and happy when he said that. He then told me the medical record that my wife provided was about to expire in a month but he will pass us and over look this. I then told him I have an update medical record. He said yes I’d take that. He quickly updates his paper work. He said if you guys are good and don’t have any questions I’ll escort you both to the exit. My wife mention about our photo album. He contemplated and said sure I’ll take a look. He took 5-6 pages from our album book. Started with our most recent which were our valentines and some from our wedding party and my proposal pictures. After that we got up and shake hands and thank our IO so much and we got escorted to the exit and that was it.
I had all the documents ready for the interview. My wife and I were also ready for the verbal part too. All the preparation and nervousness was lifted. My feedback from this experience is this. Come in ready and honest. When our IO told us that he been doing this for a very long time and he can tell just at first glance if they are genuine or need to be question more. He said most of the hard work had already been done for him. Thanks to my immigration lawyer and USCIS appointments and documents provided that this day was possible.
Right now currently waiting on the approval letter soon. Good luck to any one who is reading this. Rest assures everyone there is professional and not rude
