MEDICAL @ ISTITUTO VARELLI, Naples.
The medical is the day before your interview at the consulate. Meanwhile the consulate is kinda downtown (close to train stop "Mergellina"), the Istituto Varelli (where the medical takes place) is circa 7km from downtown. You would need a car to get there. I fortunately stayed at a B&B that has a shuttle service to it (it was just a lady working there giving a ride by car), but it was only 15euro round trip so it was convenient. They tell you to go there by 8, but the Istituto opens at 7 and earlier you go better it is, because you would have to take a number (C for consulate) and that would be your number for every step. When your number gets called you go check in and they would ask for your passport. Then you would get call for the blood tests, the nurse that takes your blood will give you also a container for your urine. Go to the bathroom and give it back to the nurse. Then they would tell you to go downstairs and you would get call in this room where they are gonna check your vaccinations certificate and ask you your address and your future address in the US. Then you would have to pay, the amount depends if you need vaccinations or not. You can pay them there by cash or go upstairs and pay with card. After that you go for the x-ray. Lastly there is the doctor examination. It is just a talk with him about your medical history. Then they will check your vision, weight, height, lungs, heart, blood pressure. If you don't need vaccinations you're then good too good. Everyone there was incredibly nice. From the lady at the checkin to the nurse, doctor etc. I had a problem with my passport and they were completely understanding.
INTERVIEW @ the CONSULATE
I had my appointment pretty early, but I got there even earlier (the embassy was still closed), so I just waited outside. After 15/20 minutes they let me in and you have to leave your electronics (phone, even usb pen eventually) where they scan your bag (airport security style). Then they tell you to go to the 2nd floor. I was there first so there was just me and the security guy. When the officers arrived I got called at a window where an officer (in Italian) asked me different docs (like passport, i-134, paystubs of my fiancé etc.). Then she told me to get back to my seat and wait to be called by the consul. I think I waited around 1 hour after that. I finally got called by the consul from a window. She was super nice, she asked me if I spoke English (in Italian), said yes . Then she started talking in English, she made me swear that I would say the truth and she asked me very few questions: how I met my fiancè, how old he was and if we had plans for the wedding ceremony. She was super nice. After the questions she said my visa was approved and I would be receiving it in a week or so. I don't know if I was lucky or if it was a pretty easy day (I was the only one for a K1), but my whole interview lasted probably 5 minutes.
