Warning to Syd filers - locking in an appointment date with the US consulate in Sydney that suits you can be hard. Keep that in mind. I waited over 2 months from NOA2 until the first available interview date.
The MLC building is easy enough to get to from Martin Place train station - as others mentioned don't bring anything with you that you don't need. I will note - I had paperclipped my documents together and put little post-it notes on them ('MRV fee', 'Bank statement', 'Ongoing evidence') etc, the lady before security went through my files and ripped off all the paperclips and post it notes and threw them away. So um yeah, that's a waste of time. Don't bother with that haha.
The interview itself is fine, I didn't feel like they are trying to catch you out or give you a hard time. If you are an honest, real, couple then it kind of feels like a casual conversation:
'When did you meet'
'How many times have you visited'
'When did you last see each other'.
'What does your partner do for work?'
I will note: as tempting as it may be, don't make jokes with the officer. Try not to answer questions with any uncertainty. Just answer the questions honestly and precisely. And have all the documentation required.
Whole process took just over 1hr, I entered the building at 8:30am and left at 9:35am.
Interview date was the 27th Nov. CEAC changed my application to 'Administrative Processing' on the 29th Nov. It then changed to 'Issued' on the 30th Nov.
I received the passport in hand on Monday 3rd December. In total, 4 business days from Interview. I live in Sydney though, I suspect those outside Sydney would have to wait 5-6 business days.
