Well! This is a day I waited for since a while and finally it's done!
So my experience at the consulate was just a little over average. For an interview scheduled at 7:30 am, I reached at 7am to stand in line with other immigrant Visa hopefuls who had the same slot as mine. I went through a hassle-free security check and then made my way to the waiting area where everything happens (from token to interview to chaos if any)
I received my token at about 8:00 am amidst some preferences. So people who had selected Punjabi as a language of preference were asked to sit down so their documents could be checked while the rest of us were asked to stand in a line for our document verification. This was something that didn't go down well with me since I believe we all are one and should be treated fairly irrespective of race, religion or otherwise.
Anyways having said that, I was soon to realize that I had made a gross mistake by chosing English as a preferred language. (Will cover this up as I move forward). So we were given tokens and called for the first check at the counter. The person across the counter asked me a couple of questions
1) Who has called you?
2) What is his name?
And then he got my file and took my documents and put them together. This happened by 8:15
Post this I eagerly kept waiting to be called for my interview and I was hopeful since I was amongst the first few token numbers but to my disappointment I found that it doesn't matter because English was the preferred language. With me there were 3 other spouse visa hopefulls who had token numbers around mine and we just kept waiting. The regional applicants had many dedicated counters and we were just hoping our turn comes soon. At this point we wonder what's happening and contact the on ground staff who aren't very helpful or resoruceful for that matter.
Finally my token number was called around 10:30!
Now the good part - The interviewer was all smiles. She was polite and calm which made a big difference.
The questions asked -
1) Who is calling you?
2) Is it a love or an arranged marriage!
3) Tell me how you found each other?
4) When did you actually decide to marry each other?
5) What does he do?
6) What are the movies he like?
7) Who is his favorite actor? Do you agree with his choice?
That's it! She told me about my rights as a green card holder and before I could register anything, she smiled and said your Visa is approved and when I jumped with joy, she seemed excited too.
She didnt check anything in terms of documents from me but I went well prepared with pictures and conversations and trip details. I also placed them on the counter before the interview began so she could get a view of it.
So finally I will be leaving on 12th December and starting a new life with my special half by my side
