I have arrived 1.5h before appointment and decided to sit outside on the bench until 10:30am(my interview was scheduled on 28th August for 11:00am).
Before you enter the building, in front of the security search there will be a lady/gentleman asking for your appointment hour, passport, confirmation of interview and/or your DS160. They will guide you to the security check door.
The security check is similar to the one at the airport. All metals(belt too),phone and gadgets will be put in a tray(if you carry water with you, they will ask to take a sip to check if it is water and not something else). Once you get outside, you will see the main entrance and inside at the reception, the lady will ask again for your passport and DS160. She will stick a number on the DS and that will be your waiting number for the interview booth. The lady will guide where to go for you interview.
When you step out of the elevator, you walk left and then left again until you reach a dead end room with a few booths.
My number popped up on the screens above one of the booths as soon as I got there. The gentleman in the booth asked me for my passport, birth certificate, DS160, police certificates and W2 or any proof of my fiance’s Income. He also asked me a couple of questions, eg - if I have ever enrolled in army of if intend to do espionage 😂, and what date I will arrive in USA. The gentleman gave me my X-ray and a CD with my X-ray to keep. I need to mention he took my original documents and asked me to wait until my number will be called out again.
I probably waited for half an hour when my number was called at another booth.
The lady there asked me a few questions - how we meet, when we started the relationship, when was the last time I was my fiancé and when he proposed. Also there was questions again if I had any problems with police or involved in any crime etc. Basic security questions that you also answerd when you filled in the DS160 online. Furthemore, she asked for the copies of the originals I submitted at the first booth and gave me back the originals. After that, she basically was typing in the PC and congratulated by saying my visa was approved.
I was in and out before I knew it. While you will sit there, I am sure you will think about all the things that can go wrong, but the people working there are very fast and professional.
My visa was issued on 30th August and was good to collect on 5th September alongside with the white envelope(do not open it)which you will give to the immigration officer at your POE!
