Warsaw, Poland | Review on July 13, 2018: | ASKI

I would like to share my experience. I am an American citizen and my wife a Polish citizen. We were married Aug 21, 2016. Over the course of 1 year 9 months we finally got our interview date. We had our interview originally on June 18, however my wife and I rescheduled it so I could attend my Graduation Ceremony. We reschedule for July, Friday the 13th. We received a list of papers to prepare for the interview. Such as, long form of birth certificate, marriage certificate, divorce papers, criminal record, affidavit of support, proof of payment of the i130, d260 and something else.
Our interview was at 830am an we were at the the embassy at 745am. There was a man calling people to the line based on the time your supposed to be there. The check your invitation letter. I attended every step of the process with my wife. We came way over prepared. The only thing that was asked for was the birth certificate, marriage certificate and criminal record. For me, this is my second and last marriage, for my wife, her first. The lady requesting papers asked my wife if this is her first marriage and she replied that it was. They didn't ask about me,nor did they care to see my divorce decree. After submitting our papers we were told to sit down and wait. We waited about 10 minutes to be called up for the interview. The counselor was a young lady, we nice, smiling, and all around very pleasant to talk with. She first congratulated me on graduating med school, and then asked us to raise our right hands and swear that all the information is correct. They also asked if either of us had been to Russia. Then my wife did her fingerprints. She was already aware that I had lived in Poland for the past 6 years so she didn't ask about how we met or how often we seen each other. Even through I was prepared to show them rental agreements for the past few years that proved we lived together. So anyway, the whole process from the time we came in, to the time we left was not longer than 45 minutes.
The last thing to mention, our marriage was Aug,21,2016. Since we are not married 2 years that puts my wife in the cr1 category. However, since the cr1 Visa is valid for 6 months, they told us to go to the States after our 2 year date and we can for sure convert the cr1 to a IR1. Which is awesome, because having to go through the headache of removing the conditional status would have been a pain in the ass. They told us just to make sure we have our marriage certificate with us at the airport and when my wife goes to the border people to tell them we've been married for 2 years.
I hope everyone has a wonderful experience like we did. The staff at the Embassy are amazing ambassadors of the American people.
