Review Topic: K1 Visa

My fiance's interview was scheduled for 10am but we arrived to the Embassy at 8:30am. The Embassy allows you to line up based on your appointment time so because we were there early, we had to wait across the street. The locals are out there selling chairs to sit in and lockers to lock up your belongings however my fiance had a friend who was there for a interview so we locked up our things in his car. At 9:30am, we were called over to line up at the embassy. The security asked to see our passports, interview confirmation page and DS-160 cinfirmation page. MAKE SURE TO NOT BRING ANY ELECTRONICS, LIQUIDS, LIP GLASS, CHAPSTICK....it's best to just come with your passport and documents needed for the interview. After walking into the embassy, we had to stand in another line inside the courtyard where there are chairs but because we filed for an immigrant visa we were told to wait in line. We were called up by another security officer who checked our interview confirmation page and then gave us our ticket number.

We go inside and wait. I have to say it was a lot of people there but they had it pretty organized for the most part. At approximately 12pm they call his number and he handed over his Certificate of Non-Impediment, Birth Certificate, police record, and my I-134 with all financial supporting documents (she asked for my 2016 and 2017 W2s and tax forms, employment letter, paystubs). We sat back down and waited again. Finally, we're called up to window 7 (we were the last to be called for the day). The Embassy Officer we had was a small man, kinda hard to read, stern but I couldn't read him and normally I can read a person's character and personality.

He went on to ask the following:
How did you and your fiance meet? (Asked for exact date)
When did me and my fiance become exclusive?
What do I do for a living?
What is my son's name?
Has he ever been arrested or ever been in front of a judge?
Has he ever traveled outside of the United States?
What is my best friend's name?
What are our wedding plans and if any of his relatives will be there?

My fiance was super nervous so most of the questions he wasn't providing much detail so I had to help fill in the gaps. The Embassy officer says, okay I'm convinced, congratulations, you're visa will be issued in a week, have a great life together! He kept his passport and that was it. He never asked to see anymore proof of relationship but our petition was heavily front-loaded so I'm sure that helped. We left at 12:30pm.

Just want to add some things we noticed while waiting...1. HAVE ALL YOUR DOCUMENTS WITH YOU AT THE INTERVIEW! It's a waste of time to go to the interview if you don't have everything. 2. If your fiance or spouse can make the interview, it is highly favored and helps with the decision and also helps the beneficiary when they're nervous. 3. Make sure you are telling the truth from the beginning because they track everything in their computer systems.

Today was definitely a long but great day...happy that this part of our journey is over!
