On April 4, 2018 was my fiancée’s interview. It was scheduled for 9am, and we arrived at 7:50am. After waiting in a line outside the embassy for 15 minutes, we were told to step inside for the security instructions. There were lockers were available at the entrance if you brought any non-permitted objects like your cell phone. First we had to show the passport, DS-160 and appointment confirmation. Since we were going for the K1 visa, we received a different ticket at the first counter, which had to be shown at every step since it was for an immigrant visa.
At the first security checks, the official told me to wait outside and don’t enter unless I was asked for. My fiancée continued alone, and at the next counter she asked if I could go with her since I was the petitioner, the lady said yes and my fiancée notified me. We didn’t have to sit on the waiting area since we were told to immediately grab a black bin and went upstairs to enter and pass the security scan. Then we showed the ticket and they let us in to the interview area, directly to the immigrant visas’ windows, at the end of the room. There we waited around 5 minutes and they called us for the first interview. It was conducted in Spanish with a Venezuelan officer. He asked for her passport, tourist visa, email, phone number, he asked me for my number and address, and then continued with my fiancée. He asked her what she did for living, if she had visit US before, how long was her longer stay in US, he asked how we’ve met, then asked for her passport photo and returned it to her, did the bio scan, asked if we wanted to submit more supporting documentation of evidence relationship so we gave him the latest airline tickets, new photos and FaceTime screenshots. He explained to her that if we got approved we had to get married 90 days after entrance, gave her the IMBRA pamphlet and told her to read it while we wait for the next interview.
After 10 minutes, a US officer called my fiancée. The interview started in Spanish but since my fiancée knew English, the officer then continued in English. She first asked her about our relationship, how we started, how the engagement went, what our plans were once we were in United States, and when we were planning to marry. Then, with a smile, she told us that the visa was approved, and that it should be ready between 2-3 weeks. We went outside in the waiting area at 9:18am, and called from a kiosk inside the embassy that rent you a phone so you can call someone to pick you up. On Friday the CEAC tracker showed “Visa Issuedâ€, and on Monday, April 9th (5 days later) the passport was ready to pick up at Zoom La Urbina.
