Arriving half-an-hour before the appointment time is sufficient, no need to be there much earlier.
As other posters have mentioned, entry with phones, cameras, electronic devices, lighters, cigarettes is prohibited. You are allowed to bring documents in some kind of folder, but do not bring bags with you. Just across the street, enterprising souls have setup mobile storage, which you can use to leave your things at for a small fee.
For K-1 visa type we were in the Immigrant area. You will be given a number and directed where to go, and which windows or interview rooms to watch for your number to be called and displayed. Everything is marked and easy to understand.
We had our medical on Tuesday. The new clinic is at 15 Tarasivska St. If everything is all-right, for adults, medical results (a packet for the consulate, a disk with lung X-ray, and the vaccinations sheet to be used later in the US) are given the next afternoon.
So we got our medical results on Wednesday, and had our consular interview on Thursday.
DS-160 confirmation page and foreign travel passport are required to enter.
First we were called to the window and given documents:
• Passport
• Medical results in sealed envelope
• Police statement
• Birth certificate
• Divorce certificate
• Financial Documents
• Proof of relationship
Things we prepared but were not asked for:
• Previous marriage certificate
• Copy of the NOA2
• Fresh letter of intent from the petitioner (though in our case the petitioner was right there)
• KEV-1 form
After that we were asked to wait, and a few minutes later asked to a different window to talk to a different officer, who asked four easy questions, and approved us.
We felt that the petitioner being there with the beneficiary meant a lot, and would highly recommend it.
In the proof of ongoing relationship we included timeline, pictures, receipts, airline stubs, chat log samples (one or two screenshots per month). We also took a few snail mail letters, complete with stamped envelopes. Curiously, we saw that a lot of attention was paid to those letters. As such, we would recommend to everybody to write letters to each other, and bring them; this is good proof with postal stamps and everything.
Good luck. Be prepared. Be genuine.
Pay attention to details. We saw a couple turned away at the door because they brought a printout of the DS-160 form instead of the confirmation. Do not let little things screw you over.
