My interview was at 1PM. I arrived at approx 12.40PM and waited outside the embassy along with 2 other people who were being interviewed that day as well.
At 12:55PM, an embassy employee checked our passports and we were then allowed to go inside the embassy.
Security check: they look through everything including your wallet. One of the security guards took my phone (which had to be switched off) and gave me a tag with a number on it so that I can retrieve it after the interview.
I then arrived into the waiting area which was empty and was directed to go to the first window and was asked to provide the following:
- 2 photos
- original documents (marriage certificate, birth certificate)
- current passport + old passport with tourist visa in it
- sealed medical envelope
- proof of relationship (I had a photo album containing around 100 photos, flight confirmations for both of us, engagement/wedding announcements along with comments from family and friends)
30 mins later, window 8 opened and a US Consul and I was the second one to be called for the interview.
He swore me in, returned my original documents and old passport and he told me he was going to ask me a few basic questions. The whole interview took about 10 mins only because he was typing so much on his computer and would ask me a question every 2 mins or so. The questions were:
1. Who is the petitioner?
2. When and how did you meet?
3. What does he do for a living?
4. Where does he live?
5. He pointed at one of the pictures in the photo album I provided and asked me where it was taken.
6. How many times did he visit you and how many times did you visit him?
He then stamped something onto a document and signed it, told me everything looked good and that I should receive my passport with the visa in a few days.
MY OVERALL IMPRESSION: Everyone was just...borderline nice (if that's a thing) - they were nice enough so that you couldn't complain.
A piece of advice for everyone who is going through the process in Romania: DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES have your medical done at the BIOMEDICA clinic. The embassy appointed doctor will recommend pointless additional medical examinations (such as ENT, Dermatology, Endocrinology) which you will have to pay for yourself (apart from the 600-750lei you already pay for the medical examination). Everyone who was at the interview that day said they were forced to have these additional medical examinations, otherwise the embassy doctor would not give them their results back). When I had my medical done, the doctor palpated my submandibular ganglia and said I needed an ENT consultation. He did not even look at my throat or my nose (which he was supposed to do). Anyway, avoid this clinic, they will try to take advantage of you as much as they can.
