Our experience was as below. Most of what you read in prior posts is correct and current, so I won't repeat much of what is already written. I used the information on our 8/1/2017 interview and it was current and useful.
The files are worked in a stack so arriving earlier than 6:30 - 6:45 offers no advantage. Everyone goes in together and the people working cases have no idea who arrived when. I saw them pulling a file off of a stack for each new person.
Some things not mentioned:
* We received non-compliant visa photos from Indio fotos the first time around in San Pedro Sula (yellow background-untrained person did it). There are places in Tegucigalpa that provide them, but due to travel complications we were in Tegucigalpa on Sunday when all of them were closed. Saturday we got some in San Pedro Sula at the last minute after all (some places take hours to process them). We were panicking over this on Friday. But...one of the studios was there at the line in front of the embassy. Not sure if they did them there and then on the street or took you two blocks to the studio, which could have been done in a few minutes. Something that's good to know if you find yourself in that position. I would check that they'll be there if you think you'll need them...not sure if you can depend on them being there each and every day and how much time you'll need. I think it was Angel Fotos, but not 100% sure...post a question if you want me to double check or if anyone remembers better than I do.
* I think someone said there are no public restrooms. There are.
* We all went in together, it is very true that kids (under say 12 or so) are processed first, with good reason. Many toddlers there who were getting fidgety.
* I got conflicting information on whether the petitioner could go in Tegucigalpa. Yes, you can go and are welcomed. Early on, my husband told me not to bother with the trip, but was so nervous on the day, that it probably avoided a nervous breakdown during the wait (though it went smoothly.
* Some people mentioned going back for the visa. Not sure if it depends on where you live now, etc. We only had the option of getting it sent to a mail service place. We were told it was approved at the interview (as others were) and the email saying it was shipped came the next morning.
*From the reactions of people leaving, it seems that by the time you get to the interview stage, you are in good shape to be approved, or it may have just been the group we were with. Only one person left the interview room after being in for a much longer period than others, and then sat back in the waiting area with us and then went to another room, came back and was still sitting when we left, and we were near the bottom of the stack.
*We were definitely in the last 25% of the people there to be done. It was all spent sitting. Showing the documents in the first phase was about 10 minutes. The interview was 10 - 15 minutes. We left a little before 11:30AM.
*We are a same sex couple, for others who might be going, this fact was not ever mentioned in the process...we were treated no differently than anyone else.
Staff was all courteous and easy to work with.
