Hi everyone,
The comments that others have already posted about the K-1 visa interview in Cuba are accurate, so I won't repeat them. But I do want to highlight a few important things that can help save you time and give you peace of mind:
1. When you arrive at the park, ask an embassy worker - typically a woman dressed in a peach or yellow dress - where you should go if you have an appointment for a K-1 visa (visa definitivo). My fiance and I had our appointment scheduled for 10:30, but per everyone's suggestion on the forum, we arrived at the park before 7:00AM and waited for our names to be called. At 10:00am when my fiance's name wasn't called, we panicked and let one of the workers know. That's when she consulted a different list of names - for "visas definitivos" - and found his name. She then told us that the group they were calling was for temporary visas (visits to the US). Since we were there for a "visa definitivo", we could head directly to the embassy for processing. Had we asked the question earlier, we would have gone in for our interview much sooner and finished earlier.
2. Presenting a good amount of evidence is important, but don't overdo it. I nearly included 350+ double-sided pages of WhatsApp messages. This isn't necessary and thankfully my fiance convinced me to present only a few select ones. Also keep in mind that your folders must fit through a narrow window slot - think of the cashier windows at banks. Print on both sides as much as possible.
3. Being prepared with your documents neatly organized is key. We used clear folders for 4 groups of documents: Beneficiary Documents (e.g., medical results, passport photos, DS-160 confirmation, etc); Sponsor Financial Documents; Evidence; and Copies of the I-129 petition. They do not take the latter because they should already have a copy, but I brought it just in case. Each folder had cover pages listing the content of the folder and where I grouped individual items like telephone bills, I also created cover pages.
Overall, it was a positive experience. The embassy workers are super efficient and organized, and most are really pleasant and helpful.
