Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

We prepared extensive paperwork proving continuing relationship and brought copies of every document submitted.

Office is a bit hard to get to for out of towners, and not in a very nice neighborhood, it's very near a big Chrysler assembly plant. There are a few places to get coffee or lunch (we arrived 90 minutes early since we drove 2.5 hours to get there) The building is newish, parking was adequate (but not covered). Rented security were officious and annoying, but not more so than many TSA folk at airports. Waiting room was spacious and not too uncomfortable. We were called within a few minutes of our appointed time and or interviewer escorted us to her office. We did not use a lawyer.

Our interviewer was friendly and businesslike. She was a lawyer herself. After being sworn, she checked at least 50 different facts in our application (she had what appeared to be a complete copy of everything we'd submitted, including originals of our candid pictures, etc). She asked questions that showed she had studied our case. We never felt like we were being challenged for truthfulness or that it was adversarial. We exchanged pleasantries throughout and we told each other some of our stories.

At the end she said that she could not comment on what she would decide, since she had a few things to check, but she said she could see no reason to deny our petition, and would be posting her decision that same day or the next (The website was updated the next day with a positive result). She explained the next steps in the process, and advised us to continue to collect evidence of our ongoing relationship so that when the 90 day window was open, we could fine for lifting the temporary immediately.

All in all a pleasant and even anticlimactic process.
