Review Topic: Other Experience

I went to the Sydney consulate in 2015, however I never read many reviews about people going in for processing of a Diversity Visa or DV so thought I would share my experience here anyway. I was very nervous about the whole process because there is not much information surrounding the interview for people going in for a diversity interview (green card lottery). I had read several opinions on this site regarding how much money I should have saved and read nothing about the types of questions they would ask me. The reason for my nerves had everything to do with the fact I didn't have $10K USD saved (the amount that had been thrown about) and I also had no solid plan of what I wanted to do when I got to the states. Only that I would go and figure it out from there.

The security is tight as expected and explained in other reviews. Once I was up and waiting to be processed, they called my number and I had to pay my processing fee. I sat back down again waiting to be called for my "interview". When I was eventually called, it was to a window not unlike that you see a bank teller sitting behind. The lady was very kind and looked through my paper work. She then asked me why I wanted to go the United States and what I would do when I went there. My answers were brief but seemed to be enough because she stamped my paperwork and said I had been approved. A sleepless night for nothing apparently! In regards to the monetary amount required for the visa application, I have come to the opinion that it is left intentionally vague as a way to deny you if you gave them any red flags for any reason. Be sensible, save what you need to live until you find a job. Other than that, if you have your interview for your Diversity Visa, take minimal belongings, take all your paperwork, good luck and don't sweat it!
