A very straight-forward experience.
My wife and I showed up about 45 minutes before my scheduled appointment time and went up to level 10 of the MLC centre. We were greeted at the door by a security guard who asked us to turn off our phones. We went inside and made our way to the reception desk where a lady asked for my document checklist and then asked for my documents one by one. The documents were then put into a plastic sleeve that we were given back to me. We then went through security and they took all of our non-essential belongings, leaving us with just the paperwork and wallet. A security guard then put us onto an elevator all the way up to floor 59 (my ears popped!).
On floor 59 we showed our passports to the officer at the door, who told us to go in and press "Visa" on the ticket machine, take a ticket, and wait for our number to be called. About 20 minutes later our number was called and a lady took my fingerprints and took my documents, then told me that she would go through them and she would call my number again if she had any questions, otherwise my number will be called by a consular officer for the actual interview. The interviews are all held at bank-teller type glass windows with a microphone and speaker, so you can hear the other interviews going on.
About 20 minutes later our number was called for the interview and I had to take an oath to declare that all information in the documents was true and accurate to the best of my knowledge. I was then asked the following questions.
1. How long ago did you get married
2. Has your wife lived in Australia for the entire marriage
3. Why do you want to move back to the USA
4. Have you ever been married to anyone else before
5. Have you ever lived in any country other than Australia for more than 12 months
I was then told that my visa was approved and they would courier it back to me.
We then left, went back to level 10 to collect our belongings and went and ate at a nearby american restaurant to celebrate.
Overall a pleasant experience. A bit of waiting around, but they have magazines if you want something to read.
