The K1 visa process at the US embassy in Singapore Just had my interview was fast and efficient. They had a special counter just for immigrant visas and the line was not long at all.
My interview was scheduled at 930am but I arrived there 9am. I went straight to the door where they were checking in mobile phones. One of the guard asked me what visa I was applying for and when I said K visa he asked me if it was immigrant or non-immigrant. So if it is immigrant they will let you in right away or if it is non-immigrant they will tell you to go and fall in line.
So after checking in my mobile phone and my watch, I went inside and walked to another check point where the officer directed me to the room where the visa applications are. Another counter by the door will check if you are immigrant or non-immigrant. The person will give you a queue number, give you a checklist to prepare your documents, and ask you to sit down and wait for number to called at window 7.
I went through two people:
Window 7
1. A man doing the documents check (1st interview)
- checked all my documents are in order
- got my passport, pictures, original documents and photocopies
- returned photocopies that were not needed
- asked me if I knew my fiance's occupation and how much he earned
- gave me a pamphlet about domestic violence and the paper to fill up if additional documents will be required
Note: if you are a foreigner, don't forget to bring your Id with FIN.
After that he asked me to sit down and wait for my name to be called.
Window 8
2. A lady (the CO)
- returned my original birth certificate
- questions:
A. asked me how long my fiance and i have been chatting and when did we officially become a couple
B. When and how long was i in the US
She then asked for my old passport (where my tourist visa was) and put a stamp on it saying "cancelled without prejudice"
C. Has my fiance ever visited me
D. Have I went back to the US
E. How long were my visits there
F. Have I met any of his family and has he met any of my family
G. Where does his family live?
H. What are our wedding plans
She said, okay your documents are complete. You will get your passport back with your visa in 2 weeks.
The first interview lasted less than 5 mins and the second interview less than 10 minutes.
