The thing is I lost my original appointment letter a day before my appointment. Stupid , right? Fortunately, I have this habit of taking a photo of all my documents. So I have a photo saved in my phone. The photo had two of my fingers on the paper and I had to find a way to edit that and remove the two fingers. But the copy that I was able to produce is sooo bad and lopsided. I still took a risk and went to my appointment.
I went to have my biometrics done here in Jacksonville's Field Office last May 18, 2017. Appointment was at 12PM but I decided to go earlier and see if they will let us in. We arrived at 10:50AM. We went past the security putting all belongings in the small bin including my belt and making sure that the phones were on silent mode. Security also asked for my appointment letter then gave it back to me. I was scared he would notice that it is not the usual appointment letter that is being sent out to applicants. He pointed towards the room at the right side of and told me to see the lady at the reception.
The lady was nice and asked for my appointment letter and passport. When she saw my copy, she made a comment of "This is a terrible copy. If you will be presenting us with a document, you have to make a better job at it. You wait here while the officer makes you a new one." I smiled and said "Thanks". She later on asked for my Marriage Certificate, made a copy of it and told me to ALWAYS keep a copy of that in my purse wherever I go because that would serve as my ID bearing my husband's last name while waiting for my greencard and/or EAD/AP card. She also made me fill out a form for some personal info. The officer she was talking about was the Appointment Service Center MANAGER!!!! I was so afraid it will not be honored and it felt like I was holding my breath the entire time. A few minutes later the manager came out of his office and called my name, and handed over the new letter. He was a very nice man named Joe but I forgot his last name. Another guy led me to go all the way to the other room where the picture and thumbprints will be taken. The whole thing only took 15 to 20 minutes and maybe less if I did not lose my appointment letter.
I am very satisfied with how my case was handled considering that I have heard that other field offices have rude officers. I don't think other offices will let me go through the appointment with that kind of letter I presented. And it is a plus that the office is just 13 minutes away from home.
