Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Background: My husband is a Canadian citizen and we initially intended to file for a CR-1 so our I-130 was already approved. He came to visit me in July 2016 and we decided afterwards to have him stay and adjust. So we only filed for the AOS and EAD in September, 2016. We had our interview on May 18, 2017.

We got to the office around 7:10 for a 7:30 appointment. I brought a bucketload of documents to provide as evidence. We went through security and up to the second floor and presented our appointment letter. We got marked for door B. We were called in by a female officer about 10 minutes later.

She swore us in and then said that she did not need much from us and wouldn't take too much of our time. She said she really didn't need any evidence because our I-130 was already approved. She asked for our drivers licenses. She did not ask for any other forms of ID (I had brought our passports, SS cards, marriage license, along with copies of everything) and did not make copies of anything. She then went through our I-485 application, asked my husband to confirm his name, birthday, my name, my birthday, and our address. She asked all the yes/no questions about criminal acts/fraud/etc. She asked for his completed medical, which we had not submitted with our initial application.

She then said she would probably be able to approve us today and that my husband should get his green card in about 30 days. Our lawyer did give her some of our evidence (apartment lease, bank statements, utility bill, and photos) and she agreed to put them in the file (but did not look at them). She did not ask us any questions about our relationship, and I (the USC) actually was not asked any questions at all.

On our way out, our USCIS website status was changed to "Interview was completed and my case must be reviewed" and we got an email that said that our case was under "Initial Review" and if they need more evidence or make a decision they will send us something in the mail.

About 2 hours later we got the notice that the card was being produced!
