Review Topic: K1 Visa

My visa interview was on September 29th 2016 at 8:30am. I was lucky to get there when I did, there was only one person in front of me. If you drive, you can park right next to the embassy, I am not sure if they charge or not for parking. Make sure to stand in the immigrant line and not in the little "bus stop" thing, because that's not for non-immigrant visas Also, in case it rains, or looks like it might, bring an umbrella or something to protect your papers with. It was dripping when I got there.

My original interview date was 10/21, but on the Swedish US consulate website I managed to reschedule it for a way earlier date, so in case you're not happy with the date just keep an eye out for an earlier one! But make sure that the interview is at least 2 weeks in advance. I was lucky and had mine come in the day before, and I had just done mine a week earlier after reading they give you a 221(g) slip if they need to wait for your medical.

When I went for my B1/B-2 Visa application interview, they were calling all the immigrant visa applicants mostly, and when I was there for my K-1 visa interview, they were mostly calling the non-immigrant applicants. So it probably depends on the day and how many people are there for their interview. So, I got to the line at 7:20 and around 8:45 I got called up to the window. He asked me to flash my passport, and then he started to go through the lists of all the applicants and when he couldn't find me I freaked out, because I had rescheduled and I thought something had gone wrong, but then he mumbled something "Oh you're a..." and then he found me.

He then told me to show him the soles of my shoes and take off my jacket. No problems there. However the guy that gone in before me was having issues with the security, and so he couldn't let me in right away. Eventually he did, and I walked right up to the security officers. He asked me to hand over my papers and to hand over my jacket so it all could be scanned through the security machine. Mind you all I was wearing was a thin fabric jacket, so if you think wearing something simpler will allow you to go through security faster, it won't. When I went for my B1/B2 interview, it was February and they just touched it and gave it back to me because I was so cold. I also asked him if I have to take off my engagement ring and he said "that it shouldn't be a problem", but if you're worried just ask. They usually let you try it again taking off whatever metal beeps.

Then he told me to follow the yellow line and go up to window G. I got into the Embassy, and there was already someone at the window so I sat down and waited with the girl who was in front of me in the immigrant line. She was really sweet. Eventually another guy came and joined us and he was from Denmark. Eventually the woman called me up to window G, and she was speaking fluently Swedish. She asked me for the papers that was in the checklist that the Embassy had emailed us. So birth certificate, parental consent, police certificate etc. I handed it all over and she asked a few questions, like "how did you two meet?" "are your parents okay with this relationship?" "how old is your fiancé?" "how many times have you met?" mind you THIS IS NOT the interview. Then she asked me to return to my seat and an interviewer will call me up to the available window. I thanked her and went to sit back down. I chit-chatted with the other immigrant applicants while waiting.

After 20-40 min I got called back, and a nice man said he'd be conducting my interview today and asked me to hold up my right hand. I accidentally held up my left and he said "Other hand" and smiled. I apologized and said my oath holding up the left hand this time. After that he said he'd need my fingerprints and then the actual interview started. He asked me:
Who's your fiancé?
How old is your fiancé?
Does the age difference bother you?
What does your parents think about the relationship? *Afterwards, he said I can clearly see your mother LOVES your fiancé!"
What does your fiancé do for a living?
What's your plan for the future?
Is this your first relationship?
Have you finished High School?
Do you plan on going back to school?
Any plans for kids anytime soon?
Are you protected? This question struck me as weird but I didn't question him about it.

Then he proceeded to look through my files and said "While I am worried about the age difference, it does seem to me you have a bona fide relationship and I can't be in the way of that" and didn't seem to smile. Then he reached over to the wall next to him and said "have you seen this before?" and it was the IMBRA pamphlet. I told him I had it downloaded on my laptop, and he nodded. He then said "Are you sure about this?" And I told him I had never been more sure about anything in my entire life, and he said "Are you a person who doubts a lot of their decisions?" And I told him I definitely am, and he responded "Have you ever doubted this?" and I almost screamed NO. And he smiled lightly and said "Okay, well in case you change your mind, you have our phone number. You'll receive your passport in two weeks." And I was so surprised thinking we wouldn't get approved (SO happy we did!) that I blinked and said "Wait I'm approved? I can go?" and he said "Yes you can go."

Then I left with the biggest smile on my face. The next day my case changed from immigrant visa to non-immigrant visa on CEAC and on 10/14 it changed to "ISSUED" and then on 10/17 I received my visa in my passport flawless :D
