Review Topic: K1 Visa

Overall, our experience was a decent one and ended in an approval, so I can't say anything bad about the experience related to those things. The interview process was intimidating, but for us very easy. We answered maybe 10 basic questions about our wedding plans, about our families, and about our employment/duties in life. The weirdest/offensive questions we got were just about if I (USC) spoke spanish, and how he felt about his family not being able to attend the wedding. In the grand scheme of things, those questions are actually very "normal," and not suspicious or malicious in nature. We ended the interview with a 221G, because we forgot to bring an updated copy of his birth certificate for international use, so make sure when you go to the interview that you take an updated copy certified for international use. Ending with the 221G, the CO just told us to come back whenever we wished with his passport, and birth certificate and provided all of that information was adequate, they'd print the visa. We then returned the next day with the passport and birth certificate, and then the visa stayed in AP status for 12 days, before changing to issued. The largest complaints I have are more about the rights of the interviewees on the day of their interview. We arrived at the big park around 8:30am or 9am for our interview that was scheduled at 10:30am, we entered the embassy around 9am, and then we did not have our interview until almost 3pm. During that time you are not allowed to leave for food or to smoke or leave for any reason unless you are a USC or else you forfeit your visa appointment. I think the embassy should be more upfront about needing to bring in food, because I had to leave to get my fiance some lunch, and a lot of people who didn't have a USC with them, were not able to eat unless they brought food in with them, and pretty much nobody did unless they had children, cause who wants to be caught in the middle of their lunch to do their interview? Granted, the benefit would be worth it, but still a pretty questionably humane inconvenience. (You can bring in what you deem to be suitable containers, no knives and no silverware, and no glass at all or plastic bottles for security reasons, and they will open it up or get all up in it because they have to for your safety) The waiting time without access to food, nor forewarning that being without food for so long, is what makes this a 4 star experience versus a 5 star experience. Everything else to us was forgivable, or within a reasonable realm for safety and for running on time.
