The feedback here is mostly consistent with my fiancé's experience so I just have a couple of challenges to share that I hope will help someone else out! This is the short version:
>Suggest requesting the AFP Certificate as early as you feel comfortable and open the package when it arrives to ensure all is in order.
>Make sure that the officer doesn't give you your medical back in the documents they return to you during the interview. They should keep it as they have it to put in the sealed package you need for immigration that gets mailed to you after the interview.
>Expect significant delays around holidays.
Here are the details:
>There are documents you receive that you can and should open (like the AFP Certificate) and there are documents you receive that you shouldn't open (like your medical). We goofed and didn't open the AFP envelope until a couple of days before the interview and discovered that the officer that took my fiancé's fingerprints didn't include the copies of his birth certificate and passport with the application sent to AFP so AFP returned our request to us. So we didn't have it at the interview. When we discovered we didn't have it Sunday before the interview, we submitted our request without fingerprints through Veritas online. My fiancé successfully expedited with AFP with friendly persistence but it would have been faster if we had used the online process available from the AFP website instead of going through Veritas. Beware that Veritas comes up first if you google it but there is an AFP option that is less expensive and would have been faster to expedite - but it takes a little more digging on the AFP website.
>The officer who took and reviewed my fiance's documents accidentally stuck his medical documents (out of the original envelope) in the stack of documents they returned to him. We sent it next day DHL back to them.
>Holidays cause significant delays it seems. And from our experience it seems they may only send out the visa packages and passports on certain days - maybe Wednesdays which is the day after interview day on Tuesdays. We were delayed because of 3 holidays. javascript:emoticon(' ')
