This process has been stressful when reading all of the horror stories associated with the K1 Visa Interview process. Unfortunately, the first attempt at the K1 Visa Interview did not go our way. I did not attend..there was very little amount of supporting evidence (only visited two times), and my fiancee did not dress to impress at all. She did wear nice pants and a shirt, but nothing to illustrate to the consulate officer she was serious about getting the visa. Couple all of this with her answering a few questions wrong (she was nervous), and it was destined to be a failed attempt. The first interview took place two years ago in November 2014. It has taken us two years to get back to the interview. The process has seen me utilize one lawyer for the first attempt, and another for the most recent interview. This latest attempt at the illusive K1 visa was met with a mountain of evidence (five visits)...I accompanied my fiancee to the interview (which helps...do not listen to anyone who says it does not matter!). I made sure to get her a very conservative dress and shoes. I wore a nice suit.
Before entering, the security staff took our passports and interview letter to ensure we were scheduled for an interview that day. Upon entering the first double doors, we (Fiancee and I) went through a metal detector and documents went through an x-ray machine. Unfortunately, the backpack I brought was not allowed inside...they tagged my bag and allowed it (along with phones) to wait at the security check point until we were done with the interview (we were given a number, so we could retrieve the bag). At this point. we left and entered another area were we retrieved a number and waited for our number to be called. Upon our number being called the first time, we went to window 7 and delivered all of our financial documentation, medical records, police criminal check, and evidence of our relationship. I was informed...all of the evidence would be reviewed by a consulate officer, before the interview was conducted. We then went and sat down, while awaiting our number to be called again...then we got called for my fiancee to have her finger prints taken....all of this took about 45 minutes to complete. After waiting for about 3 1/2 more hours it was time for our interview. The woman conulate officer asked only four questions:
How did you meet? (asked to my Fiancee)
Where do you work? (asked me)
When was your engagement ceremony? (asked to my Fiancee)
What are your plans to get married in the USA? (asked me)
She then informed us we could pick the visa up in one week. I do have to say..this interview was very easy and not at all like I expected it would be. Reading the horror stories, it is easy to be nervous. Although, if you have plenty of evidence...go to the interview with your fiancee...and are dressed to impress (we were the best dressed individuals in the hole embassy. Then the rate of success is high. Unfortunately, I did hear of individuals denied when we were waiting...it is a sad thing to hear, but at least one woman who showed up to the interview alone (who interviewed before us with the same woman consular officer) tried to mislead the officer by holding back information. Obviously, this really got the consular officer mad, and her decision was swift and final. Denied! Our experience with her was a quite bit different. Good luck to everyone in their K1 Visa Journeys!
