Interview was scheduled for 7.30AM but I got there at about 7.10AM and I was the 7th in line. At about 7.30AM, they started to let us in - registering ourselves, giving up our electronic devises, etc.
I didn't really keep track of the time but after I've gotten my waiting number, I just waited until it was my turn in the waiting room. My number was called to Counter 1, the lady at the counter simply asked for the documents the embassy asked for and at the same time asked me a couple questions (she asked according to the checklist):
1. appointment letter
2. passport
3. DS-160
4. 1 passport style photo
5. visa payment receipt
6. birth certificate (original, photocopy and translation)
7. police certificate
8. She asked if I am single and if I was married before (I said yes I'm single and have never been married before, then I noticed that she ticked X)
9. I-134 and all supporting documents (I only gave her the IRS tax transcript. I didn't give her the employment letter and she didn't ask for it either)
10. She asked if there is any co-sponsor and I said no
11. medical report (she opened the huge envelope and took the small envelope that was inside. She didn't take the X-ray report at all and she didn't seal back the huge envelope)
Lastly, she handed me a piece of paper to sign and pledge that I will marry my fiance within 90 days of my entry to US. Then she gave me the pamphlet which mentions my rights in the US. She was really, really friendly by the way! Smiling all the way and really polite. I went back to the waiting room and continued waiting after that.
Next thing I know, my number was called to Counter 5 and the CO was a Chinese lady. When I entered, she was busy looking at our pictures that I had sent together with the I-129F and she commented 'nice pictures!' hahaha. We started with me taking an oath and then taking my fingerprints. During this time, I could see my fat case file sitting in front of her with the big 'APPROVED' stamp from the USCIS on our I-129F. Then it was game time. She scanned through my birth certificate and asked for my name, birth date, father's name and mother's name. Then she basically asked questions based on the timeline of our relationship.
1. Tell me your story. How did you guys meet? (I told her that I was on a J1 visa and that we met at Denali, Alaska. We were assigned to the same restaurant).
2. When did you go to Alaska? How long was your J1? (I said I was working in Alaska for 4 months and travelled around US for 1 month)
3. So it was during this time that you got romantically involved?
4. Is he a permanent employee there (Alaska)? (I said no, he was working seasonal but now he is living and working in Colorado)
5. What does he do? (in terms of employment)
6. What was his education?
7. What do you like about him?
8. What does your family like about him?
9. So after your J1, you came back to Malaysia. Then what? (I said he came to visit)
10. When did he visit? For how long?
11. So it was during this time you got engaged? When exactly did you get engaged?
12. Did you have an engagement party? Do you have an engagement ring? (I said we didn't have a party but just a family dinner. I told her about my ring (it's not like some expensive diamond ring haha) and why I thought it was special (it glows in the dark HAHA and it doesn't scratch easily since we like to work in the kitchen) then she asked what is the ring made of)
13. Describe to me your pictures like where are they taken (but she didn't really gave me a chance to describe them anyway. I only managed to describe 2 pictures before she went on to something else. She was looking at the postcard I sent to my fiancé and I described it to her that I sent that postcard during my trip to Tokyo. She read my postcard and sort of laughed to herself lol)
14. What are your wedding plans? Are you going to come back to Malaysia to have a wedding?
15. What about his family? (I mentioned that I had applied for a tourist visa to visit his family but I got denied. She said nah that's fine, it doesn't matter lol)
16. What do you know about his family? (I described a little, like the names of his parents and step parents. I also mentioned about his brother and that his brother's wedding is in 2 days but I couldn't attend because of the visa and she laughed at that too haha)
Then she was typing something REALLY REALLY long. I was waiting for her to ask some more questions but the next thing I know, she said that my visa is approved!! Then she said that my passport will be kept for about a week. I asked about the X-ray report (since they didn't take it and the envelope is left open). She said it should be fine and to just pass it to the Immigration Officer at POE. She also said that I will be given a sealed package along with my passport when I collect my passport.
On some questions, she was typing on a lot. On others, she didn't even touch the keyboard haha. She also tend to ask like a couple of different questions at the same time so I was wondering what should I answer first lol and she didn't really give me that much time to finish answering my questions. I think she just wants to move on after she has gotten the answers she wants to hear from me lol.
Not that I'm complaining anyway, since I got approved HAHA. But I gotta say that the CO IS really nice and friendly. Smiling and laughing at some of my answers haha makes me feel a little bit more relaxed despite that I stuttered a little at the beginning of the interview haha. I also brought a hell lot of evidences with me (like chat logs and call histories) but the CO didn't even ask for it!
In the end, I got out at about 9.15AM so the whole process is quick! But I noticed that they started calling the waiting numbers (right after me) REALLY slow (maybe because the people who applied for tourist visas and other type of visas have started coming in for the interview?) so I'd recommend to be there as early as possible so that you're in the front of the line.
The next day was Veterans Day so the embassy was closed, but by the second working day my visa was already issued and ready for collection! YAY. collected it the next day and now we're in the midst of planning my flight to US
