Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

My husband and I were VERY happy to find out that our interview date was months earlier than the projected timelines led us to believe. Unfortunately, it was right smack in the middle of our family vacation that had been planned a year in advance. So instead of gambling with trying to get a rescheduled interview (and avoiding any kind of "you think vacation is more important than AOS?" questions during the interview) we cut our vacation short and paid up for one-way tickets back home.
The building at which the interview was conducted is very nice (nothing like the one where we got Wesley's biometrics) off of Colfax. We arrived about 20 minutes before our scheduled interview time, went through security and made our way upstairs to check in. I think we waited about 15 minutes before being called by our immigration officer, Mr Phillips. He was very pleasant from the get-to, asking how we're doing, if we waited long...etc. We were very lucky to get him, as we were both pretty nervous. I will say, though, if you do arrive early and end up waiting, that kind of helps to subside the nervousness.
Mr Phillips walked us back to his office. He confirmed why we were there that day and what the purpose of our interview was. He then made us take our oaths and gave a quick explanation of what the interview was going to be like. Told me that he would be asking Wesley questions and ask that I not answer them, and vice versa. He then proceeded to ask Wesley a few general questions while looking through our passports. Noted that Wesley came to visit me more than I was able to go visit him. To which we explained that Wesley owns his own business and can travel more frequently than I can. He asked if I had met his parents, what their names are. Asked Wesley if I had been married before and for how long (Wesley didn't know how long I was married for, but that didn't seem to be an issue). Asked if either of us had any children from previous relationships, asked if we had plans to have children anytime soon. He asked Wesley if he knew which company I worked for. Asked about our wedding ceremony and who all was there. Also asked Wesley if he knew what my cell phone number was, which was pretty hilarious to us because I've been teasing Wesley about the possibility of being asked that question. He got about 75% of my number correct, and that was fine. Mr Phillips then asked me if I had any documentation that I'd like to provide that can go in the file as evidence of our marriage being legit. NOTE: HE DID NOT ASK FOR ANYTHING SPECIFIC. I could have handed over a million different things, but chose to give him pictures from our wedding, bank statements, health insurance cards, utility statements, notarized declaration statements from my mother and best friend and a couple other random things I can't even remember.
After all that he stated that Wesley and I got married in the amount of time we were allotted with the fiance visa and that he does not see any reason why his AOS should not be approved. He said all he needs to do is make sure our background checks are good and that was that. On our way back to Colorado Springs, Wesley received a text from the USCIS saying his green card was approved.
So we feel that we were very lucky to have gotten the IO that we got. At no point did we feel uncomfortable. It blew my mind that the only specific thing he asked for was our passports. Other than the generic "would you like to submit any evidence..", I was not asked for ANY of the documents that the interview letter told us to bring. Having said that, make sure you bring everything it asks for anyways. Always bring more than you think you need to bring. We showed up with 2 packed accordion file holders full of every single document we've ever submitted from Day 1 of the K1 process.
Hope this review helps.
