I have read several reviews and the process went as expected according to the reviews. This was perfect cause I knew what to expect. This was our experience at the Embassy.
You meet at the small triangle park early in the morning. We arrived around 6:45am our appointment was at 10:30am. Advised to be there by 6:30 am, I’m sure other people were there even earlier. Please be aware there is going to be a lot of people at the park for the Visas (Tourist and Permanent) in addition there will be companions which are not allowed to come in the Embassy. This makes the park look overcrowded with people. The lines are separated and you can ask and the people will tell you whether you are in the correct line.
As we were asking about which line or area we should stand in the “Ladies†with the red vest and list started to arrive. She explains to the crowd what she’ll be reading out and in what order. She starts reading from the first list for those people that didn’t arrive early enough and then the second list. We are on the second list and therefore she told us to stand across the street next to a little snack and bathroom stand. She leaves and returns to us a good hour later. We followed her all the way to the entrance of the Embassy – there you hand her all the critical documents the evidence comes later – be patient. I separated all my documents the day before and I just handed her everything in a clear folder or envelope. I strongly suggest you have all these documents in order the day before the interview this way you are prepared and not scrambling to find documents in the line of people. The lady was very patient with us, kind & explained if we had any questions.
Now we enter the embassy and you go through a metal detector and they go through all your belongings. I had a few things in my purse and they held on to it until we were done at the end.
At this point, I asked about my pass to go into the interview with my fiancée, and you are held yet again in a separate room until the pass is signed by an officer. Then, we go into a different room in which there are several teller windows and they ask several questions—and this is where you turn in all your evidence and get a number. Some people get fingerprinted there and some don’t—he didn’t.
Once this this is done you will go into the main room where everyone is held for interviews. There are many seats in this room and according to what you are there for they seat you. There are about 8 teller windows with the consular asking questions. You can hear just about everything the person is answering and its quite uneasy. We were number 32 and we waited no more than another hour sitting before we were called. I was asked a majority of the questions and he was asked about 5. The lady was very nice and professional. She approved us and gave us the document with the date but mentioned there was a backlog of people so they would call my fiancée to pick up his Visa as soon as its ready on the date and of course to check on the website. We are done by 10:30 am and celebrated afterwards.
Believe me after all the reviews we were quite lucky not to be there all day waiting for the interview. Overall the experience was great and people were nice and professional.
Hope this helps.
