We came to the consulate early, around 7, but I don't know that that makes much of a difference. Another couple came at the same time as us, and they were done 1.5 hours before us. Greeters helped us through lines and explained what to do next. When T went to go get a number, I was directed to sit down. Then when her number appeared on the screen we both went to the window, where a woman sorted through her paperwork and asked her general questions about getting the visa, like name, DOB, who is supporting her financially. We waited for a while for her to be called. T commented that they must have been looking at my I-134 for a long time. We were sure worried about going to the officer at one of the windows. He seemed to be pretty hostile with the interviewees. Instead, we went to one with two women, an African American and Vietnamese interpreter. We were asked to raise our right hands and tell the truth, and I was invited to sit down two rows away. The CO then asked T if she knew English. Not so much. Then how do we communicate? Nathan speaks Vietnamese. How? And then, the bulk of the questions came from the explanation of how we met. Remember that letter for Part 2, Question 34a on the I-129f? She asked questions straight from that, and T. Then, questions about the dinh hon. After that, T signaled for me to come over. How do you know Vietnamese? Why did your family not come to the engagement ceremony? Then back to T. Do you have family in the U.S.? Where? And...congratulations! The CO looked at a few pictures and did not look at any of the over 1000 pages of evidence of our relationship! They returned everything but the medical exam form, I-134, and passport. Next, we filled out a sheet with EMS staff for where to have the visa sent. Maybe write down some phone numbers of friends beforehand in case they can't reach you when they bring the visa. There were other K-1 visa applicants there. If the fiance(e) was there, things seemed to go well. I was glad I was there to answer questions from the CO. I suggest that you be honest and don't stress over it as much as we did. It was fairly simple.
