My interview couldn't have been better!

My appt was for Wednesday, August 15, 2007. My US fiance decided to accompany me at the interview. We arrived at the Consulate at 7:15 AM and nobody was there yet waiting to get in. The security guards were in the building though with doors locked. A couple of minutes later, a young lady showed up and then a couple of minutes after that, another young lady showed up. Then at about 7:30, security unlocked the door and let the three of us in. Once we cleared security, we were given, letter B, window 9. The other ladies receive A and C respectively.

We then waited in a lobby on the first floor. They conveniently have a photo booth in there, in case you forget your photos. About 5 minutes later, the security guard took us up to the 19th floor. Window 9 was to the right of the elevator.

We arrived at window 9 and spoke to a lady. She fired off the list of items she needed - my medical exam (she didn't need the x-ray), photocopy of and original birth certificate, passport, Xpresspost mailer, photos, police certificate and affidavit of support. We had a co-sponsor complete an affidavit of support and the lady asked who this person is and Bill explained that it was his step-mother. Then she sent me to the cashier to pay my fee. The cashier was not open earlier.

Then we sat and waited. I was then called to take fingerprints. I had issues with that! My fingerprints were not coming up clear, so I had to redo them repeatedly. The lady finally told me to go to the washroom and wash my hands with cold water and dry them. That did the trick and my fingerprints were taken.

Then we waited again. After a while my name was called and I was asked to go in an interview room. I forget what number it was. All of the interview rooms are numbered. My fiance and I went in together. The room is slightly larger than a closet. First, I had to get my index finger finger printed. Then he asked how we met. Next question was, "where do we plan on living." Third question was "what do I do for a living." Then he asked if I plan on doing this in the United States and I answered "yes." He then asked Bill what he does for a living. He's a funeral director, so then we had some conversation about his job. Lastly, the interviewer asked if I had ever been stopped at the border or committed any crimes. I explained that I was denied entry to the US a week ago due to the fact that Bill and I own a car together in the US and because of this it may have appeared as though I live in the US which I do not. He didn't seem bothered by this at all.

Then he said "congratulations, you're approved for a visa." Then he gave us some informational pamphlets and we were on our way out. We left the building at approximately 10:00 AM. So we spent about 2 hours total at the consulate. Mind you, we were the first ones there and the first ones interviewed. When we left, the waiting room was really busy. Made me wonder how long those people had to wait.

Two days later, my Passport arrived with my visa in it along with two sealed manila envelopes full of documents that I am not to open. I have to hand these in at the US border when I cross. So make sure you get the correct size Xpresspost mailer (314mm x 349mm) to hold all those documents.

Good luck to the rest of you!
