I entered the US Embassy in Brussels around 145p (appointment scheduled at 2p) and after two security checks, a quick one at the fence and an airport like one inside (where they kept my phone/flash drive/car keys...), I waited for like 15 minutes in the waiting area.

Then I was called at a first counter and that nice and smiley person went through the documents again, asking me to show originals of the copies they had already. She also collected part of the medical examination result documents. She asked some more question about my stay in China (traveling between Belgium and China for about 2 years) and going through the file, she found a copy of the letter sent to NVC to explain the whole China situation and said that the Consul will state on that (meaning China Police Certificate required or not). She kept my passport and was not too picky about the pictures I gave that should have been American sized (meaning larger). Finally she took my finger prints.

Once done with this, I was invited to wait again until my number was called to see the Consul this time.

Very friendly person too, that man asked me to swear an oath to tell only the truth raising my right hand and took my fingerprints (cracking a joke about the fingerprints device saying it would tell if I'm lying or not). He too asked about China but the explanation given by the first person seemed to have satisfied him already. He asked when we got married and why we chose Sacramento. I told him we were on a road trip to what he said it sounded like a marriage in Las Vegas to what I answered it wasn't anything like it and gave some details about the road trip itself. Talking about China, he also said he had been there many years ago. So we started to talk a bit about different places and provinces in China. Finally he told me my visa was accepted, that I could pick it up a week later and threw a very nice "have a good life" before letting me go.

Overall it took an hour, most of the time consumed by the first person as the interview with the Consul took around 5-10 minutes, and everything behind a counter.

Therefore I would say that it was a very pleasant experience, totally stress less and quickly done!
