Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

I (UK spouse) was adjusting from K-1 to CR1 after several months in "authorized stay" limbo. We had to reschedule once because my husband had a work conflict - I wrote to the USCIS office explaining this and gave a list of dates that we could do and received a fairly prompt reply that this was fine and a new date was given - June 02 at 10:30.

We arrived around 10:00 in business casual dress. It was fairly busy and took about 20 mins to get through security. Once through, we went to the interview line (empty!) and a lady checked our IDs and AOS appointment letter. We were told to drop the letter into the box at window 2 in the "Information Area" (laid out with embassy-style interview/waiting room). We sat for about 15 mins before the ISO called my name and took us to a private office to conduct our interview. Well, I say interview: he didn't really ask either of us any questions that required us to formulate an answer!

We confirmed our names, our home address address, dates of birth and dove into the I-485 the officer had in front of him. I reaffirmed some of my prior answers (not a terrorist, never denied a US visa) whereupon the officer stamped the I-485 and asked me to sign my reaffirmation. We quickly moved on to evidence of our relationship. The officer was very pleased to see that I had already gotten a Social Security number and bank accounts/credits cards. I gave him our joint car/health/life papers and a utility bill with both our names on it as well as photos of our wedding and honeymoon (along with air fare and hotel bookings). He also took my husband's 2014/2015 tax returns but did not both to inspect them. I offered to give copies of passports, birth certificates, DS-3025 (vaccination worksheet) but he said they were already on file and not required.

The officer was extremely pleasant and relaxed throughout. The interview lasted approximately five minutes and he informed us, with a big smile, that he had no trouble approving us there and then for my green card. I asked about ROC and he confirmed that it would be 2 years from today minus 3 months. Then we stood up, shook hands and left - easy!

(Update: despite being verbally 'approved' on the day, my AOS case was kept open as USCIS then demanded an I-693 with my vaccination history transcribed onto it despite the DS-3025 being complete. However, I shall not let that post-processing irritant detract from the excellent interview experience.)
