I am the petitioner, but I attended the interview with my husband. I am glad that I did. It was really eye-opening. They treat people like cattle, herding them from one place to another and making them wait without instructions. Our appointment was scheduled for 8am, so we showed up at 7:45am. After waiting in line for an hour and inside for another hour, a very abrupt and impatient woman finally called us up to submit documents (birth certificates, etc). They told us at 12:45pm to come back at 1:30pm for our interview. I asked the announcer if we were really going to have our interview at 1:30 or if we'd have to wait for a few more hours. She assured me that the interview would be at 1:30pm. Surprise, surprise...they didn't call us for the interview until after 3pm! The interviewing consular officer (middle-aged male) couldn't have been more pleasant. I am told we lucked out with this officer. There were apparently 2 female officers (at Windows 3 and 5, I think) that were notorious for being tough. We were told to come back the next day for the visa. But of course we had to wait another hour for them to call us up just to tell us that we had to wait for security clearance. You'd think they could just tell people that the very same day! LOTS of people were told to come back the following day. Aside from a few friendly workers, there is no good queue system. Nobody bothers to give updates or instructions. I couldn't believe a US Embassy operates like that anywhere in the world
