Our appointment was for 8.45 am, and we were in Newark at 7.45 am. We tried to park on the street, by a parking meter, but a police officer helpfully told us that parking is not allowed until 9 am. He proceeded to tell us how to get to the very reasonably priced parking lot ($5 all day!) which was super nice of him.
The entry procedure into the USCIS building was a chore, people were let in in groups of 5 and were searched and went through the metal detector, of course I had to go through it a couple of times due to my hair pin
When that was all done, we went to the 14th floor, and proceeded to wait until 9.15 (so half an hour later than our appointment time), when at last we were called in.
Our interviewer was a nice, young, cheerful lady, who made the process a breeze. We had our documentation prepared by a lawyer, so absolutely nothing was missing. We brought a couple of photos with us and a new tax return, together with payslips and employer verification letters. She asked normal questions, nothing strange or difficult (where and when did you meet, who was at your wedding, what do you do in your free time) plus the mandatory questions.
We were done in 20 minutes and we were approved on spot. I would say that the money spent on the lawyer was well worth it, as we had no problems or requests for further information.
