I had a pleasant experience at the consulate today (19 April 2016)
My interview was scheduled for 1pm. I arrived in Sandton nice and early, grabbed something small to eat and then headed to the consulate around 12, there was one person ahead of me. Security outside said that we will go in at 1pm, I thought that was a bit strange as my interview was scheduled for 1pm, thinking I would have to be there prior to get through security etc. I waited for an hour, there are benches in the shade, however the steadily grew so it is recommended to arrive earlier but not too earlier as some people were being chased away for arriving too early for interviews later in the day. I went through security, had to leave my phone in a locker, and any flash drives etc.. Once I got in I got a ticket number and had to sit and wait. I was second in line, I waited max 5 minutes before being called to a window. A very friendly South African lady assisted me. She took all my required documents and then I had to go pay at another window. Just a heads up I paid cash. I had read r
Previous reviews of people's cards being declined, that happened to the gentlemen in front of me, he had to leave the consulate and go draw cash in the mall opposite the consulate. Once I paid I was called to take my finger prints and then had to be seated until I was called for my interview. I didn't have my phone or watch so I have no idea how long I waited, must have been about 20 minutes. A friendly American gentlemen had my folder, I had to say an oath with my right hand raised to acknowledge that all the info I have given and will give is the truth. He then started asking questions like where and when I met my fiancé, when last I saw him, what is his occupation, when will we get married, what occupation do I currently have, if I am pregnant, have I been previously married, where I intend to live in the states, are we going to buy a house. He then showed me a picture that I sent in with my I-129F of my fiancé, me and my Family on holiday in Germany. He asked me to name my family members in the picture. And then he asked me about my proposal, when, where etc and had a picture of our proposal. While I was answering his questions he was typing on his PC. He then smiled and said "Congratulations, everything seems to be in order, your visa is approved" I can collect it in 7-10 business days. I am hoping sooner, I just want to book my flight and get to my fiancé.. It's been a long process but so worth it!
