Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

I went to Atlanta Field Office for my Adjustment of Status interview. My appointment was at 2:15pm. My husband and I came as early as 12pm but we were told not to come more than 30 mins early. So we headed down to the nearest Starbucks for a cup of coffee while waiting for time to pass. At 1:30pm, we drove back to the field office carpark, the carpark was quite full, I suggest to come early just in case. At entrance, we are supposed to show our government ID and to do a scan at the security. Mobile phones are allowed. I brought 6 files with me, K1 Visa copy, AOS copy, AOS updated file, Bills, lease agreements and other purchases, Educational Certs, Original Certs.

We then proceeded to the registration counter where we handed in the Notice of Action for AOS interview. The officer handed us back the Notice of Action with highlighted time to check in at Lvl 3.

After proceeding to Lvl 3, we had to wait for our time at 1:45pm to check in. The counter closes at 2:00pm, please do take note and not to be late, otherwise you will not be able to register for your interview. We sat down and was given a queue number. The waiting area was quite empty, it took us 15 minutes wait time for our queue number to be called.

The officer came out and called out for our queue number at 2:00pm, then led us to the hallway of office rooms for the interview. Our officer was Mr. Carpenter, he was very professional, nice and friendly guy. We started off with doing the Oath to swear that all said were truth. He knows that we would be nervous about the interview like any other couples, so he tried to lighten the conversation.

The questions asked were:
1) How did we meet?
2) When did we meet in real?
3) When did we get married?
4) How did my husband get his citizenship?
5) When was he naturalized?
6) When are our birthdays
7) How to spell each other's names
8) Are we staying together and what's the address? We showed the taxes filed jointly this year which wasn't in the AOS file that we submitted, we showed our joint bank accounts, lease agreements with our names in it, health insurances, bills and offered to show photographs.
9) Do we have individual bank accounts?
10) What are the specs of the computer that my husband build for me? We both answered together
11) Do you love each other?

The officer did not ask to keep the documents. He then moved on to asking government questions such as whether I have committed crime and so on which can be found in DS160 that we submitted back then during K1 process.

He moved on to asking personal questions after. He asked my husband instead of me.
1) What is your wife's mother's name?
2) What is your wife's father's name?
My husband couldn't answer those because he couldn't remember, he called my parents mom and dad. Then the officer asked if he knows my name, and of course he answered correctly.
3) Have you met your in laws? My husband showed the photographs of us with my parents.

I offered to show him more pictures and documents because I bought and prepared alot but he said its fine. The officer handed me a pre printed paper indicating that our case needs additional review but does not need further documents. The officer told us that he cannot make the decision yet but it will take 2-6 months to process depending on USCIS processing time.

He moved on to asking if we know about Removal of Conditions, I briefly know alittle and he explained the details.

And that is all, he showed us the way out and said goodbye. Very good experience and friendly nice officer!

After the interview, we carried all our documents back into the car, went for lunch and after 30 minutes, I received an sms and checked on USCIS case status that our case has been approved! Fast and efficient!
