Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

The lady that takes your paperwork is very rude. All through the process I had been asked for a "Marriage Certificate" and I had provided it, at no point was I told my cert was not the correct one (as this country has a second type of cert called an Act).

Friday before the interview I got an email stating that I need my Marriage Act instead. At that point, the place where I'd get that was closed, and my interview was first thing Monday morning so I didn't have the time to get there. I had to have the interview without the paperwork. When the lady asked for all the paperwork and I mentioned I didn't have that she got defensive with me and acted like her email on Friday had been a favor and I should have read the instructions more carefully in the first place. I had the paperwork to prove her wrong, but figured there was no point to it, so I let her talk to me in the most condescending tone she could muster. She also scolded me for not knowing that every document that is in English or Spanish does not need to be translated ("you should pay attention when reading" she said), even though pieces of documentation from the NVC site say otherwise. All in all the lady was horrid.

The Consul, on the other hand, was incredibly nice and polite. I was a bit nervous going in, and his attitude melted the nerves away in less than 5 minutes.

Sadly, my visa was denied because of the missing paperwork, so I get to turn that in and we go from there.
