I had my appointment at 8.30 (10/09/2015) and arrived at the embassy at 7.45. Lined up by the sign that said non-immigrant (as my e-mail had stated) and noticed a lot of other people standing in a sheltered glass box to the left of me. The security guard kept calling in the ones from the box and didn’t seem to notice me at all so after 15 minutes, feeling like a fool, I also went to stand there as and eventually got through the security. The guard spoke Swedish to me after seeing my passport and I handed them my phone and headphones.
My name was then called up shortly after sitting down. In window G a lady asked to see my passport, evidence of relationship and documents. It turned out that my fiancé had missed to state his annual income in the I-134 and we had completely missed to bring his last tax returns. As I am adopted the e-mail from the embassy said I had to bring a final certificate of adoption, which I had no clue what paper they meant. I had brought a personbevis that stated where I was born and both my adoptive parents names. That was apparently not enough, the lady got annoyed and asked if I hadn’t read the e-mail? I assured her I had and asked exactly what kind of paper of adoption they wanted. She just said; your parents should have it. So by then I figured we were kinda screwed anyway. Sat down again and waited another 20 minutes before a guy called me up for the interview. Took my fingerprints and he asked me how we met, what was my first impression of my fiancé, what does he do for a living, how did he propose and what our plans are for the wedding. The officer was very nice, he scrolled through the pictures I had brought and told me since there were some documents missing I had to send them back a soon as possible. He kept my passport and I got a 221(g) paper that stated what was missing. He didn’t say that my interview was ok or anything and I didn’t dare to ask either so then I left.
We sent in the missing papers one week later. If you are adopted, you should bring a translated decree from the district court that shows you have not been illegally adopted The status on CEAC’s website said Administrative Process since the day of the interview. It changed to Ready as they received the papers and also changed from immigrant to non-immigrant.
Received my visa two weeks later after interview.
