His appointment was at 7:45am, I believe it is the earliest appointment. If you can, it's always better to get the earlier appointment to avoid the extra wait time. He arrived the consulate at around 7am, and waited at the Immigration line. Even though there were a lot of people waiting in line already, the security won't let you in unless it's your appointment time, so there really is no need to be there too early.
Passport, P4 and CGI appointment confirmation were required for getting into the consulate.
Note that you can't bring in backpacks and cellphone, so he had to spend 30rmb to deposit his backpack.
After getting into the consulate, there is security check like how it is at the airport I suppose, they will scan your passport and give you a sticker on your passport. And then he went up to the 3rd floor for the IV unit. There he went to the first window to turn in his documents to a Chinese lady. She was a little tough and actually asked a lot of questions during the process, since my fiance had tattoos, she asked when he got them/the meanings etc., why he only attended one year college, how we met each other.
She only collected i-134 with supporting documents (I provided 2014 and 2015 tax returns with W-2s, bank statement, they didn't take the employment letter), passport, birth certificates and police certificates. Since we both never married before, the single status/marital status certificate was not required. (Even though fiance went through a lot of troubles getting it, they didn't need it lol)
Then he was given a number and instructed to wait in section B for interview. The VO was quite nice, he only asked whether you have been to the US before, how and when we met, if you are CCP member, and when we plan to get married; glanced through our photo book, asked if he had read the domestic violence flyer. Then fiance was told approved.
Overall was pretty quick, he came out at 9am.
Other things to keep in mind is that, every case is different, and the documents they needed will be different too. We prepared every documents they listed on P4, but not all were collected. What they didn't ask from us may be required for you. So be prepared and good luck!
