I'm writing this review in hopes that it can help some people along the way of such long journey. First of all, Cubans are very fearful of this process, which we should be because it's just hard to know what the Consular Officer will make your destiny to be.
My mother lives in the Eastern part of Cuba, so she had to travel to Havana ahead of time. She got there on Sunday January 24th. Thank God for our family and friends in the capital! They all have been very supportive of this process. DO NOT SEND your relatives to Havana without money if they're traveling from the interior part of the country. While I know money is tight with this situation, just know Havana is a big and expensive city unlike many of the small towns most of our relatives live in.
I personally made a copy of every single document I sent to the NVC and USCIS and sent it to my mom, along with the printed copies of DS-260, I-130, Receipt of all payments made, AOS form! I literally sent my mom in with every document filed with both agencies.
She got to the famous "park" at 6:30 amm- her appointment wasn't until 10:30am-. Around 7am, a lady came out with a list of names and started calling people. Then again around 8:30 the same lady came back out and called more names. This time my mother's name was called. Some advice here, make sure to let your relatives know to eat a good and filling breakfast before going in, My mom entered the embassy at 8:40 am and did not get out until 1:10. Her interview lasted 5 minutes.
She told the Consular Officer that if she needed anything to let her know, because her daughter(I) had sent her documents of everything.
Here are the questions she asked my mother:
-Who is petitioning the visa for you?
-How many children do you have? Are you sure?
-Do you have any grandchildren? How old is he? My mom followed up her own answer with "He's really cute"
- Where do you intend to live when you arrive to the US?
-And then she ended with "Your papers were filed correctly and spot on, I have everything I need." "Congratulations, you will be traveling to the US." "Come back on February 3rd. to pick up your visa" By the time she said congratulations my mom just started crying and crying (out of relief). And the lady was very nice and said "Don't worry you two will be reunited soon."
My mom says everyone was friendly but that it was a long time. With that being said, I would highly suggest that you ensure NVC has received all necessary documents prior to sending your case to the embassy since this will delay the process and most likely will get you a second interview
