I am pleased to announce that we had a suucessful AOS interview yesterday! :yes:
I would say that tt was much easier and faster than my interview in Manila. The officer was a kind and gentle lady. After having us swear to tell the truth, she went over our file which she had prepared in a long folder, confirming our demographics, name, bday, place of birth, etc, my phone number here in the US.
The only things she took were bills we had together (auto insurance for us) and 2 or 3 pictures. Basically it seemed like she was just gathering evidence that were not previosuly submitted with the I485 petition, and maybe since our docs were quite new there was no need for her to get the new ones we brought such as an updated I864.
She asked a few simple questions too like where did we meet, how long have we been a couple, did we have a reception, and other similar questions. She also asked to see our rings if we had any.
BTW, it seems that while three years of income is needed, it is only the last year that is needed to be sufficient in order to qualify as a sponsor. In our case we thought we needed a cosponsor because it was only in 2004 when my wife's income became sufficient enough to pass the poverty guideline. Her 2002 and 2003 where below the income requirement. The officer saw this and told us that we did not need a cosponsor and cancelled the I864 of our cosponsor. :D
All in all everyhting has gone well for us during this whole process. The only disappointment was my EAD which the officer said she was going to deny after the interview, since I was already going to get my greencard. $175 down the drain, no refunds :angry: oh well maybe they will be able to fix this seeming loophole in the system so that people do not have to waste money on this... although those of us who get approved before getting the EAD appear to be the lucky minority...
