Hong Kong, China | Review on January 13, 2016: | lambertwei

My wife, the applicant, had stated that the interview went well. The personnel were professional, as expected as they work for the government. The interview was in Cantonese and the following questions and concerns were brought up:
1. Asked for all the documents.
2. Where did you guys meet?
3. Confirmed marriage certificate.
4. Asked if she had ever returned to the states after coming to Hong Kong. The answer was no. This is probably related to the J-1 2 year home residency restriction. She had just satisfied that requirement by a few days.
5. Interviewer had also expressed concern in regards to the finances. I (USC) work at Hong Kong. Obviously, this translates to that I needed a family member of mine as a 2nd petitioner. The interviewer was concerned that it is hard to find a job there. My wife replied that it would not be a concern because we are both engineers and being employed should not be an issue.
This whole process, between entering and exiting the embassy, took 2 hours and 10 minutes.
Also, only the names stated on the interview letter are allowed to enter the embassy. They are very strict about this. The petitioners are not allowed to visit.
