I wanted to ensure that we didn't have any problems with the most important paperwork (129-F), so we used www.rapidvisa.com. We'll probably do the remainder of the paperwork ourselves in order to save some money, but rapidvisa was awesome! Highly recommended!
Rapidvisa told me that from the time of mailing the 129, my fiance should have her visa in-hand in 4-6 months; and they were right!
FYI: Sometimes the govt doesn't have any of their official paper. Yes, they actually run out (regularly)....smh. This can delay the receiving of any official documents (i.e. birth certificate & its translation). After the consulate received the visa packet, we could have scheduled our appt at that time, but we didn’t have our documents ready. It took us another month to get her birth certificate & medical exam completed. So, try to have all documents ready as soon as possible! I think my fiance could have had her visa in that 4month timeframe if we would’ve had all documents ready by the time the consulate had received our packet.
The entire process was pretty simple, except for two things.
1) Please make sure you get the CORRECT copy of the birth certificate. It's best to print the example from the embassy's website, take it into the govt office & tell them that this is what you need. What they give you may not look exactly the same, but as long as it's close, it should work.
2) As of Nov. 2015, there are only 3 doctors that you can go to in order to get the medical exam. Two of the doctors no longer do the exams, and the embassy has yet to update the website with their replacements. The one doctor that was doing the exams, didn't have any available appointments for 6wks. I emailed the embassy explaining to them the doctor situation, and they replied back about a week later saying,
"We are aware of the situation with the doctors and are in process of updating the list. Until then, you can go ahead and schedule your interview at the embassy and bring in the medical exam whenever it's completed."
The embassy’s website says that medical exams are good for 4-6 months. So, get it within that timeframe.
On the day of the interview, my fiance arrived at the embassy at 6am and stood in line outside for one hour. She entered the embassy at 7am. She then waited for about an hour and was called to window #1 at about 8am. At window #1, they took all of the documents. She then waited about another hour and was called to window #2 at about 9am. At window #2 she was asked a few questions:
Where do you currently work?
How did you meet?
Have you traveled to the U.S. before?
Has your American fiance been married before?
Are you planning on working in the U.S.?
What does he do as a job?
Your visa is approved!
The lady at window #2 then gave my fiance some information about her rights while she's in the U.S., some information about domestic abuse & told her to that she should memorize this information, along with the number to the police; just in case. The lady said that the visa should arrive in about 10 days.
