My husband received notification on 9/11/2015 for his interview date of 10/20/2015. He arrived at the Embassy approximately 07:30 and didn’t get called until after 12:00 pm. He was asked very few questions and then told that we would need a joint sponsor. I provided proof of assets of almost $200k but they still insisted that we provide a joint sponsor. My husband tried to give the interviewer my additional paycheck stubs for proof of current income, but she didn’t want to see them. The only reason I can assume they wanted a joint sponsor is because I had only been at my current job less than 2 months on his interview date. I had just returned from Afghanistan, where I had been living for a year with him, to set up our domicile and await his arrival.

They did not question or age difference or my multiple marriages which I expected…only the issue with income. They did however take his passport and told him to bring the additional I-864, with original signatures, when completed.

He stated there were about 25 people with him on his interview day and that NO ONE received a VISA that day. However he was the only one that was asked to leave a passport.

I gathered an additional sponsor and FedEx’d the paperwork to him and he received his VISA on November 15th with no additional problems.

All-in-all I think it was a typical VISA interview. Not good and not bad. You can cross every “T” and dot every “I” and it just depends on the day and the interviewer at the time.
